Carolyn Priscilla Wilson Grout
Carolyn Priscilla Wilson Grout was born on February 28, 1928, to parents Elizabeth and Gilbert Wilson in Milford, Connecticut. Carolyn grew up there, and graduated from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing in 1949, the same year that she was married to Alan Leonard Grout, Jr. (deceased). As a young couple they moved to California, residing in Saratoga for close to 25 years, while Alan pursued his career as an airline pilot. They had 3 children, Carolyn, Lori, and Alan Thomas (deceased), and Carolyn enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to raise them. Carolyn was very creatively talented, and she enjoyed doing crafts, participating in the garden club, Republican Women's Club, and as a volunteer at her children's schools and youth groups. When they became "empty nesters" in 1976, Carolyn and Alan moved to Lake Sawyer, WA, and enjoyed spending retirement years divided between living on the shores of their beautiful lake during the Spring & Summer months, and wintering at their golf course condo in Florida. Carolyn enjoyed crafting, gardening, and world travel, up until a massive stroke rendered her paralyzed at the age of just 63. She spent the past 18 years confined to a wheelchair, with a severe speech impairment. Carolyn's husband of 53 years devotedly cared for all her needs until his death in December 2002. For the past 7 years, Carolyn was lovingly and patiently cared for by her caregiver, Tena Collins of Kennewick. Carolyn's passing on Sat., Jan. 30, 2010, releases her from her earthly infirmities, to be with her Lord and her loved ones who have passed on before her. She is survived by her two daughters, Lori Bready (and husband Rob) of Kennewick, and Carolyn Miller-Pope (and husband Greg Pope) of Martinez, CA. along with 7 grandchildren (Marc, Travis, and Alissa Bready; Todd, Corey Emily, and Ryan Miller) and 1 great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Marilee Sorman and beloved niece, Diane Smith, both of CT. During the time she lived in Kennewick, Carolyn attended the First Christian Church, and she also very much enjoyed visiting with her many friends at Adult Day Services in Kennewick. A private graveside memorial service will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to a charity of your choice.
